This is so, so sad to watch. Naturally we all knew it was going to happen some day - a day that in the past months looked increasingly closer due to age and health issues - but it still seems unreal.

Very touching moments. Thanks for the links. I could see the POW getting teary telling her lovely Louis story.

William did do very well, under difficult circumstances. I do think it may have helped a bit being in London compared to Balmoral.

I wonder where Peter's gone. The four granddaughters have arrived in Edinburgh along with Prince Andrew and the Wessexes, but Peter doesn't seem to be with them.

It must have been mentioned before in the forum, but the Queen's coffin is drapped in her Scottish royal standard with the arms of Scotland swapped with the arms of England compared to her usual standard in England.
 
Farmers have positioned their tractors to form a guard of honour for the late Queen Elizabeth II as she passes through Aberdeenshire on her way to Edinburgh.

One good thing about all this is that people of Scotland have their own time to say their farewell/pay tribute without having to travel to England (in case they can't travel to London)

That makes no sense. His sister and cousins have kids too and they are there. I would imagine, if he isn't with the family he is in that massive fleet of cars. I see no reason he would go home. It seems clear the family are staying in Scotland and will be there until she goes back to London. Charles is going up tomorrow and perhaps William and maybe even Harry. There will be a vigil tomorrow and I presume one in London.

My understanding, as Prince Andrew said, is that the family had their own day alone with the late Queen and then surrendered her to the Nation for the public mourning. It was agreed that only the Princess Royal would accompany the Queen's hearse to Edinburgh.

The wreath on the coffin are flowers from the Balmoral estate, dhalias, sweet peas, phlox, white heather and pine fir.

It actually does. His sister and cousins are not single parents. He is. Perhaps custody agreements warrant that he returns to care for his children.
 
Is there a reason why the coffin of Her Late Majesty is to rest in the Bow Room at BP, and not in the Throne Room?

I don't know if this is the reason, but the Bow Room is on the ground floor, so it would be much easier to get a coffin into it.

I thought about it as well, but I would expect a bit more effort to bring the coffin upstairs. She was literally the monarch three days ago.
I hope there are more reasonable reasons :(
 
Buckingham Palace is being renovated isn’t it and building works have gone on for some years. Perhaps the Throne Room is unsafe in some way or in a state of disrepair.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if the Bow Room was her favourite room - certainly of the two I would prefer the Bow Room.

Most of these arrangements were the ones that she planned so I think that the decision about where at BP would down to her wishes.
 
It is interesting that she is brought to BP at all, as her father went straight to Westminster Hall after arriving from Sandringham and i believe it was the same for George V. And the Queen Mother was brought to one of the Chapel at St. James Palace.

It is a very heavy lead lined coffin, it might not be physcially possible to bring it upstairs. I would have said that that was pretty much a reasonable reason.

A lead lined coffin perhaps. You wouldn't want to be getting that up any stairs.

The crowds were very respectful. I saw a few people make the sign of the Cross as the cortege passed by. I didn't see many citizens holding up their cellphones to take photos thank goodness.

It drives me crazy. I can't stand it.:bang:

That's funny because I got the impression that loads of peole were taking photos....

Maybe just because Peter's daughters need him for emotional support. At their age his daughters probably experience same level of grief like the adult but unable to handle it. I don't think Peter would refuse to join his sister and cousins if he's available.
