Prince Christian's 18th birthday, October 15, 2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
For future reference: there is no 'crown princess Elisabeth' or 'crown princess Catharina Amalia'. Among the reigning European monarchies, the title crown prince(ss) is only used in Scandinavia. Officially they are Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant and The Princess of Orange.

I used the blog Tiara Mania as reference! Thanks!

That's absolutely correct regarding the official titles, but in the Benelux monarchies, Crown Princess/Crown Prince is popularly used unofficially, even at times by the royals themselves (for example, King Philippe's 2015 decree on the titles of the royal family uses the term "the Crown Prince or the Crown Princess").

I think it is more important to emphasize that there is no "the Duchess of Brabant". It is more correct to refer to Elisabeth as "the Crown Princess" (which is an authentic though unofficial style) than as "the Duchess of Brabant", which is never used in any way, officially or unofficially.

Officially, as you said, it is Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant.

Now corrected!

I watched the documentary. I think that it's intentionally made to teach young people more about how Denmark works. It's not necessarily a reflection of what Christian knows (or doesn't know). Some of the things are new to him, no doubt, but there are probably also several things that he asks questions about just for the educational value of the documentary.

He seems to be a mature and thoughtful young man. I'm sure his parents and his grandmother will help him learn more about his duties in years to come. There's no hurry. Barring a horrible event, he won't be king for 30 years or so.

Mange tak for posting links to the Prince Christian which also led to the Mary @ 50 documentary! I have spent an extra hour enjoying a very interesting presentation of Danish television at its best. As others have noted ,Prince Christian’s civics lesson was a fascinating insight into the formation of an heir to the throne as well as an excellent overview of how Denmark works as a constitutional monarchy. Well done DR!:flowers:

From the NRF with a lovely photo of Christian and Ingrid Alexandra

When this photo popped up in my Instagram feed (with it weird function to show the second photos first) I'm so confused as there's a moment I'm thinking who is that boy next to Ingrid Alexandra

Good to know that they had taken that precise photo during IA's confirmation, I'm hoping we may see those two doing some joint engagement together very soon.

Wow, that is such a spectacular picture of Christian and Ingrid! I really hope the DRF comes through with a picture of the two and the other heirs present tonight.

The SRF's post pales a bit in comparison (galla dinner at... Fredensborg Palace?)

The day has come.

The very latest update says definitely rain at Amalienborg at noon. The wind is west, so the DRF should perhaps prepare an umbrella or two when out on the balcony.
It will of course be interesting to see whether the DRF will appear on balcony at QMII's residence, or M&F's residence. My bet says QMII, she is after all hosting the whole show.

BB has a liveblog here:

BT will probably also start a liveblog soon.

DR1 has started their coverage. I actually don't think you need a login to watch this, because this is from the news segments. Would you mind try and check?

The better quality coverage is here, requiring a login:

(See the simple guide in how to get a login in a previous post of mine.)

- All three will go live to Amalienborg around 11.45 at the latest. That's in 1½ hours after this is posted.

What happens is that the relieving watch of the Royal Lifeguard Regiment will march in on the square with the marching band who will play various tunes.

At noon the balcony doors will open and hurrah!
QMII will usually call for nine cheers for Denmark - 9X hurrah.
Then the band will play a song, usually the children's birthday song which everybody in DK knows by heart so people will sing along.
Then the DRF members will walk inside, but traditionally the crowd will chant: Christian, Christian, Come on out. Or we will never go home.
That happens about two or three times.

For additional videos being uploaded along the way, check TV2:

- The press has as always gone into overdrive!
When our dog was walking me earlier this morning, we were chased back home by hordes of howling journalists, who wanted us wish Christian well on his B-day, sing a song in his honor or offer advise.
I bet if I say something really deep like: "After winter comes Spring." It would end up on TV.
(Win a prize for guessing what movie that is a quote from. ;)
It's Welcome, Mr. Chance.)

The danish Rf website Balcony of Frederik VIII. Palais.

If I'm not mistaken, Christian's first words stepping onto the balcony were "wow, that's a lot of people!" :D

Goosebumps seeing the three generations on the balcony together!

Farmor Margrethe and mor Mary were bursting with pride. It looked to me that Frederik was more pensive, perhaps thinking about the future Christian is facing.
But Christian seemed to enjoy every second! No shyness there.

Between the first and second appearance it really started to rain!

As predicted people started to sing the birthday song.

QMII was a mischievous mood, or her back was hurting. She stopped raising her arm after the sixth cheer, either to let people keep count themselves or - because her back hurt. Anyway, I think we got eight cheers for Denmark.
The last cheer is a signal for the band to play the royal anthem which is aptly named: Kong Christian. After Christian IV.
I thought I saw QMII say hush! Just before the royal anthem was played.

When Isabella, Vincent and Josephine get the Order of the Elephant from who it will be?

I doubt that will be publicly announced as their 18:th birthdays will not be this huge.

The last elephants to ”come back” was those worn by King Constantine II, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Elisabeth of Denmark so it may give a hint….. Perhaps Isabella will recive QEII’s elephant as they shared birthday…

There should also be the one of Count Christian af Rosenborg, if it was not already given out again. and the one of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg.

The wrong thread I think, but K.Felipe might receive the elephant of his uncle K:Constantin, and Letizia maybe the one of HM Q.ElizabethII

According to press release this isn't something that is publicly shared otherwise, so probably we won't get to know that.

Also the Elephants of Prince Richard and Count Christian have come back in recent years.

The "British Elephants" might be reserved for future British appointments such as Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales.

During the King of Sweden's Jubilee last month it was shared that Crown Prince Haakon was wearing the insigna that once was worn by King Olav, and it was hinted that they try to inherit them if possible. It might me possible the Danes do it similar.

What i wonder is it also the sash which is reused. Or only the elephant itself and the star?

That's a nice sized crowd outside the Amalienborg Palace!

I'd imagine where possible foreign royals get their ancestors elephants and insignia where possible but that may well be why they don't make it public so if its not possible know one really knows - much nice to simply be able to say on the occasions it works out - that's your mum/dads or grandparents elephant otherwise say nothing.

It looks like a lovely way to mark he heir's heirs 18th. Interesting to see the gala dinner tonight and how it will work with so many youngsters along with the usual pomp.
