Monarchies & Republics: Future and Benefits

I placed it in inverted commas deliberately. It is the idea of inevitable, linear ‘progress’ away from tradition towards a ‘pure reason’ or egalitarianism. It is a phrase popularised by Marxists but can be used also to describe the deterministic strain in liberal thought or indeed what used to...

Monarchies & Republics: Future and Benefits

In these interesting times, it is hard to say ‘never’. And ‘Historical Inevitability’ is no longer … inevitable.

Monarchies & Republics: Future and Benefits

Nepal and Albania I very much agree, Nepal especially. I know that Serbia has at least one, perhaps two monarchist parties but I’m not sure how strong they are. I hear conflicting accounts of Romania and would like to learn more.

Monarchies & Republics: Future and Benefits

In which country (or countries) is restoration most likely to happen? Broad question: In your view, which republics that were once monarchies (whether in Europe, Asia, Africa or the Americas) are most likely to move towards restoring monarchy in the foreseeable future?

    Restoration of Monarchy in Portugal

Thank you for that. I realised that the Duke of Bragança is not connected in any way with PPM.

    Restoration of Monarchy in Portugal

Thank you Sir. May I ask what the difference is between Causa Real and the Real Associações? I had conflated the two organisations, wrongly believing that the latter was a branch of the former. Being British I am sceptical about referenda (or referendums, if you prefer) because of the political...

    Restoration of Monarchy in Portugal

Yes, I wonder where that idea came from. The idea of restoration would be to establish a constitutional monarchy. I agree that it seems fairly unlikely (although it would be good of course) but I would be interested to hear a range of views on this.

    Restoration of Monarchy in Portugal

You are probably right I’m afraid but politics are unpredictable across Europe - and the world - in these ‘interesting times’.

    Restoration of Monarchy in Portugal

It would become a constitutional monarchy, I would presume, with a multiparty system and elections as at present, but with a King rather than an elected President.

    Restoration of Monarchy in Portugal

What are the chances of a Restoration in Portugal? How likely, on a 0-10 score, is a restoration of the monarchy in Portugal? I know that none of the major political parties are monarchist, but is there significant Royalist sentiment beneath the political radar? It would be good if the two...

    Brief Introduction

Oxfordshire is a very beautiful part of the country which I know well.

    Portuguese Monarchist Party

I notice that the PPM formed an electoral alliance with Chega. This seems a bit worrying, although perhaps I’m reading too much into this. From what I can see I think that Causa Real is possibly more on my wavelength.

    Portuguese Monarchist Party

Thank you very much for that Blog Real. I have looked at the Causa Real website the afternoon and been very interested by it; I wonder if they accept overseas members?(!)

    Portuguese Monarchist Party

From time to time I have read - and heard - about a political party in Portugal that supports the restoration of constitutional monarchy, called the Popular Monarchist Party (or People's Monarchist Party as it is sometimes translated). The information I have gleaned is sketchy and there isn't...

    Greetings from Southern England

Hello I have just discovered this forum and as I am a strong constitutional monarchist I look forward to participating in interesting discussions, learning a lot and making new friends. I’m male, young middle aged (!), professional and educated to postgraduate level, with a wide range of...
