Weird not to see Tsar Simen II of Bulgaria. They were first cousins and close.
He is increasingly frail, so that may be why.

Is the interview available to read online?

What did the late Victor Emmanuel say about King Juan Carlos?

Not so close. In 2006, it was discovered during an investigation that Vittorio Emanuele had tried to involve Simeon in a corruption matter and that he and a businessman friend of his had invented information to harm him. Until the truth was discovered through recordings, this information greatly damaged Simeon's public and political reputation.
I really wouldn't like Queen Sofia's presence at that funeral, on this occasion her obsession with going to royal events is out of place. The relationship between both families was strong during the years of exile of the Counts of Barcelona in Portugal, but the deceased created a scandal at the wedding of the Prince of Asturias and, as you have said, recently attacked Juan Carlos in a documentary.
Queen Sofia was raised right. No matter your differences in life you turn up to say a final goodbye.I really wouldn't like Queen Sofia's presence at that funeral, on this occasion her obsession with going to royal events is out of place.

Sofia is in better health than Albert and Paola and it's clearly a factor (btw, last year they attended several events in Belgium, also appearing on National Day, so I don't agree that "we barely know if they are still alive").I wouldn’t call it an obsession fo royal events. I prefer her sense of duty with respect to other former Monarchs like Albert II and Paola, that we barely know if they are still alive.
Oh dear, where’s the real class? It must be such a high profile event for her, I assume.Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies just posted a selfie with her father on their way to the cathedral, those people need to get a grip.

Was there anyone from Belgium?
Surprised not to see traditional mantilla being worn.
Queen Sofia is a stalwart at Royal funerals as is Prince Albert of Monaco.
Aimone and Filiberto never had issues so I don’t think they will have any enmityPrinces Dimitri and Aimone preceded the coffin into the church with Prince Serge and Prince Emanuele Filiberto following behind it. The Aostas are also seated with the immediate family. I do hope that this genuine closeness between the two cousins will continue instead of letting dynastic squabbles alienate them.
It seems Prince Boris was there. Wonder if anyone from the Hesse Family attended as the late Landgrave Moritz was also one of VE's cosuins and he attended his funeral in 2013.Weird not to see Tsar Simen II of Bulgaria. They were first cousins and close.
Just saw photos of Boris of Bulgaria and Dom Alfonso de Bragança.

Exactly! I can criticise so many things about Albert, but he always shows up, he is never snobbish and behaves with respect towards everyone, no matter the religion. At King Konstantinos' funeral he was nothing short of reverential to the patriarchs, what a difference with, say, Carl Gustav, who was laughing at times.Albert of Monaco has his share of personal controversies but he can ALWAYS be counted on to conduct himself with grace and dignity in public.
He was the first non-family Prince to greet Marina Doria; bowing his head and then reaching out to kiss her hand.
He is a very warm classy guy imho.
Afonso's presence at this funeral was not expected. It was planned that the Portuguese Royal Family would be represented by the Duke and Duchess of Bragança and Duarte Araújo Martins (the husband of Infanta Maria Francisca). Was it a last minute change? or did the Duke and Duchess of Bragança and Duarte Araújo Martins also attend the funeral?

It was also reported yesterday that Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz from Belgium would attend. Some sources even King Albert and Queen Paola. None of them was there. And also a Saudi-Prince was reported. So i guess they were simply wrong.
I assume that all reigning monarchies recognized until the end Victor Emmanuel as Head of the House of Savoy. The Vatican does so as well - see the Message sent by Pope Francis.Vittorio Emanuele was referred to in the Mass as Prince of Naples and "Grand Master of the Orders of the Royal House of Savoy". Marina was also cited as "Her Royal Highness". Is the Church in practice taking sides in the dynastic question?

It’s also worthy to notice that Prince Amedeo in 2021 has been buried and his grave in the Sanctuary of Superga says “Amedeo of Savoy | Duke of Aosta”, not “Duke of Savoy”.
