Summary of article in Billed Bladet #20, 2015.
Written by Dorte Quist (So not much about the car, alas).

As you know by now, there are two bridges over Little Belt, between the island of Funen and Jutland. This one, a steel-girder bridge is 80 years old this year, which is also one of the reasons why that bridge-walk was introduced this year. Being of completely different design than both Sydney Harbour Bridge and the New Little Belt Bridge from 1970, that are both suspension bridges, this the Old Bridge is low, but still you walk 60 meters above the strait and this being flat country, albeit wooded, you can see far.
The walk is a little more than a kilometer, so the distance is about the same as in Sydney.

Now, what was Mary reaction up on the bridge: "Whaaaauuu! - It was a huge experience and with a terrific view and then you are thoroughly blown through. I really hope that many will take the walk, because that is something you will remember for many years.
It was a really good experience too (referring to her own walk of Sydney Harbour Bridge in 2011), but it can hardly be compared. The two bridges are very different and that Harbour Bridge you are in the middle of the city of Sydney, while here you are out in the nature and can see so many beautiful places in Denmark".

What about heights?
M: "I felt very secure. I think it's a really good idea with bridge walking. There are a lot of tourists who look for a unique experience. And that's just what this is. And then you get blown through. But that's also a part of the experience".

It was actually a local from the of Middelfart who got the idea, when standing on (you guessed it) Harbour Bridge in Sydney, three years ago. So the municipalities of Middelfart on Funen and Fredericia in Jutland agreed on creating the walk.

From a pic in the article I can guarantee Mary has no issues with height, because she is seen leaning way out to see the balloons being released. No one who has problems with heights would lean out and look straight down.

Well arrived on the Jutlandic side, Mary was offered a ride back to a hotel in a Chevrolet 1928. Jumping behind the wheel Mary exclaimed: "It's almost too many experienced for one day". The owner, John Andersen, kept smiling, even when the inexperienced Mary rattled the gearbox. :frazzled:

Today (one hour ago) CP Mary arrived and official opened the Danish children's libraries common reading campaign "Summer Book" 2015 in Odense:

I had the pleasure to watch the whole event live via a link on Pallesgavebod.dk.
And it was a witty and charming Mary who held a great speech to the children.

She said among other things that greatly amused the children and the audience.

"To the 'Summerbook campaign' last year the record was 12,000 book reviews from the Danish children... aaand I think there's a good chance the record will be surpassed this year if the summer continues.. in this way..."

And Mary is so right! Our summer days consists so far of days with rain, rain, rain, wind and only 14 degrees.

While Mary held her speech, something suddenly happens behind the children and the little children lose all focus.. Mary laughs and says humorous "It's funny, it's the same there happens at home when I'm trying to tell my children something"

She has always had a nice sense of humor, our Mary!

When Mary greeted and chatted with all the children, watched the exhibitions and greeted Jakob Riising (a Danish popular children host) as Mary have met many times before in connection with the Mary Foundation's children's events.
- You can all look forward to meeting him. I have met him before and he is FUNNY, Mary told the children.

And so it was goodbye and Mary continued elsewhere in Odense where Mary rigth now are seeing the exhibition 'Danish Now'.

ADDED:
And then it was Mary's new LIW Christine's first official event today.

Thanks, Roskilde :flowers:

Wasn't Christine in Sweden? I seem to remember a clip of M&F followed by a LiW and two adjutants. The LiW was certainly not Tanja.

And later today, Mary visited the exhibition of 'Danish Fashion Now' where 10 of Mary's own gowns are exhibited.

BB video:

When Mary arrives we hear her say "Hi... finally!"
She has no doubt looked forward to see the exhibition, but she has had a busy last month, so there has probably first been a space in the calender now.

The man you see being interviewed last in the video is Danish Jesper Høvring (perhaps Denmark's most popular designer, and one of Mary's absolute favourites)

He tells that the dresses brought back memories and there was an almost touching atmosphere and that Mary told if just the gowns were exhibited like this at home it would be much easier to choose.

As we saw with Frederik event yesterday, we see with Mary's events today. Due to our general elections last night, I don't think the events yesterday and today will recieve much attention. Danish media have gone crazy with the general election ;)

Summary of two articles in Billed Bladet #26, 2015.
Written by Luise Marie Bekker.

Mary went to the main library in Odense to put focus on an initiative caller the Summer Book 2015. The aim is to have children aged 7-14 read four books during their six week school holiday and to review the books online and perhaps win a prize.
She was as always met by a flowergirl dressed in her finest, in the shape of seven year old Liva.

Mary then gave a speech for the children saying: "You no doubt look forward to having a holiday and whether you are traveling or going on vacation in Denmark, you can have a great time from reading books.
A unique world opens up when you open a book. And during the holiday no adults decide what to read or when to be finished".

Ans as you can tell from the Royalista video below, Mary was taken aback when suddenly during her speech a child made a loud farting sound. Then she started to laugh and so did the children. Mary said: "That also happens at home when I try to tell someone something". (Frederik?!? :p)

VIDEO: Someone breaks wind and Mary reacts like this | Royalista

After that Mary went to an exhibition at a nearby museum about Danish current fashion, Danish Fashion Now, and that included ten of Mary's dresses.

Upon arriving there was no flowergirl. She had fallen ill. (Or chickened out) instead another girl, Emmelia, who had been standing waiting patiently for Mary to arrive, so that she could present Mary with a rose.
She was swiftly recruited as a flowergirl, so a delighted Emmelia, complete with a paper crown on her head presented not only the official bouquet but also her rose to Mary.

When she entered the exhibition Mary exclaimed: "My wardrobe! If all my clothes hung like this it would be a lot easier to choose".

The exhibition runs until 13th September, in case you happen to drop by.

ADDED: BB claims it was a farting sound. Royalista claims it was a genuine fart. - In this case I tend to believe BB's version is more plausible.

Breaking wind

You know what they say;

Tis better to fart and stink a little ,
than not to fart and be a cripple.

Tis better to fart and be in shame,
than not to fart, and be in pain. :)

Sorry to lower the tone in this August thread. But some of you have a good sense of humour.

What will the vicar say?!? :ermm:

Alas, this one is not suitable for translation - as it wouldn't rhyme...:whistling:

Just seen a longer clip in the early evening news on TV2.
Mary participated in the therapy session with six young people with parents with alcohol abuse.

One of the girls told afterwards - very touched:

"I am touched and moved that she is here. Yeah... It was so big. She (Mary) was just so sweet and simply so very sincerely interested. She asked many questions and listened to us. It was lovely to talk with her. It was big."

There will be more in the main news tonight. (Muhler do you take that one? :))

Royalista with a great gallery and article:
Crown Princess Mary sits down with adult children of alcoholics | Royalista

:previous: Sure, Roskilde. :flowers:

The feature on the main news at 19.00 focused on a young woman called Julie Pagh. She was what is known as an "adult child". I.e. her mother was an alcoholic, so from very early on she had to a very large extent to look after herself.
When she was five she had a younger sister, which the mother was unable to look after in a proper manner, so Julie had to look after, feed, comfort, change nappies on a child just a few years younger than herself.
After being taken shoplifting she realized she needed help.
- Her story is a success. She is now a psychology student and she has a good relationship with her mother.

Julie was one of the young people Marys spoke with in private at her visit to TUBA. The details are not and will not be disclosed.
Julie was in tears afterwards. I can only imagine what feeling must have gone through her head at this meeting.

- There are an estimated 200.000 alcoholics in Denmark. That covers anything from those who go on a fairly regular binge, to weekend-drinkers to social-drinkers, to those who drink on a daily basis with the bottle hidden behind the books on the shelves - to the end station: those who sit on the bench.

I have personally worked with many alcoholics in the various places I worked over the years. In some places drinking at work it was endemic, an acceptable part of the work-culture and if you didn't drink, you were an outsider.
I will estimate some 20-25 % of those alcoholics I've worked with ended up on the bench eventually. Many if not most had children - who are prime candidates for an organization like TUBA.

And Daily Mail, who is covering Mary a lot these days, has an article as well: Crown Princess Mary of Denmark gets back to routine royal duties after being named 'most stylish young royal' - beating the Duchess of Cambridge for the second year running | Daily Mail Online

Thanks Muhler :) You know, I was doing too complicated dinner tonight to I could multitask.

Good coverage of the visit. TV2 Lorry had a longer feature as well. Maybe they put it online in some hours.

A beautiful picture of Mary at todays's teraphy session! :)

:previous: We can't manage all. :)

Here is the clip from Tv2 Lorry: Lorry

The woman in focus here had a mother who was an alcoholic. When she was eight years old, her dad walked out and she hasn't seen him since. And from that day, she became the adult at home, because her mother was too drunk. That also included looking after two younger siblings.
She is still struggling with a sense of guilt after having to leave her siblings when she was sixteen.
She also talks about the sense of shame she had as a child of having a mother who was an alcoholic and who wasn't a real mother. - And who can an "adult child" go to? Friends? No, they are children. Teachers? No. What would happen to her mother? Her siblings? To her?
She said Mary was good at respecting her boundaries while still making the conversation they had very personal.

Thanks Muhler. It was some touching clips in yesterday's tv-news. And it was obvious
how much it meant for the affected. She is brave Mary, don't afraid to put focus on the biggest taboos. And focus on children of abusive parents is something that is really needed, even here in the year 2015. Sadly enough. She do a really remarkable job as Crown Princess. A very good example of a person using her notoriety and fame to help others.

Perhaps a new upcoming project in the Mary Foundation? Children of abusive parents.

ADDED:
We are also told that when Mary was going home, she had to wait outside on the sidewalk - because her car simply was delayed. It didn't bother Mary at all. She got more time to chit chat with the young people while they together waited on the car.

It's wonderful, that royals are not afraid to bring attention to causes that are labeled as 'taboo', and not really talked about. That is the best way to raise awareness, and to make sure that the people effected get the necessary support. My proverbial hat goes off to Crown Princess Mary. She's indeed an assist to Denmark.

Tuba themselves tell about the Crown Princess' visit:

With big curiosity and warm eyes Her Royal Highness today met Lisa, Julie, Mathias and Randi - four of Tubas young ambassadors. Each told their personal stories about growing up in a home with addictions. HRH the Crown Princess asked interested into their course in TUBA as well as their role as ambassadors.

"One can almost imagine that working as an ambassador also acts as a form of therapy", says the Crown Princess.

As we know, Mary is fully committed to her work and it was Mary who wished to re-visit TUBA after she and Frederik last year honored them with The Crown Prince Couple's Social Price 2014.

One of the young people, Therese Alexandra Evald, on her Facebook yesterday:

"In September, I experienced a very committed Crown Princess who insisted on visiting us in TUBA. I am therefore very proud and touched that the Crown Princess today fulfilled that promise. Well done to all!"

Two events/meeting today has in the last minute been added for Mary in the calender:

Crown Princess Mary attends a meeting with Foreign Minister Christian Jensen and Executive Director of UNFPA at the Ministry of Foregin Affairs of Dk.
Copenhagen at 13:25.

Crown Princess Mary receives Dr Babatunde Osotimehin in Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg, at 15:15.
The last event there will be 'no press access' - and probably not much more than a picture or two from the meeting with Foreign Minister Christian Jensen and Executive Director of UNFPA taken by a photografer in the Ministry of Foregin.

It is such meetings the royals probably has many of, but it is work the general public never seen.
