Prince Georg-Constantin of Saxe-Weimar died on Saturday 09.05. after a fall from his horse. The accident happened on the grounds of Apethorpe Palace in Northamptonshire. Accoding to the Police it looks like it was an accident.
Prince Georg-Constantin was the designed heir of the House as the present head Prince Michael has no sons. In August 2015 he married Olivia Page in a civil ceremony

Sad. Looks like there are no male heirs for Saxe-Weimar now. Will the title go to the Saxe-Meiningen family in due course?

How incredibly sad! Didn't they plan to have a religious wedding this year? It must be devastating for his wife and family.

At the time of the civil Wedding it was said that the religious Wedding would take place the following year (2016) in England. Probably it took place without the public notcing it. It is said as it mains that the Saxe-Weimar line will become extinct in the male line after the death of Prince Michael and his cousin Wilhelm-Ernst (the father of Georg-Constantin) as it seems Georg-Constantin and Olivia did not have children.

Oh, how awful!:bang:
Has any curse fallen on German Royal Houses???; one Duke and Princess' husband are killed in car crashes (in the case of the second one - his little children were witnesses of this tragedy), one commits suicide and now a mortal fall from a horse...

Condolences to his wife, parents and sister...

How awful for his family and for his poor wife. This means that in a few years that the House of Wettin, who not so long ago counted the most branches, will be reduced to just the two of Meiningen and Coburg-Gotha.

Sorry but who committed suicide?

How terribly sad and tragic, may he rest in peace.

How tragic, still so much of his life ahead of him and just married a few years ago.

Indeed, it is a very sad news.

On another note: does anyone know if his grandmother, Princess Felicitas zu Salm-Horstmar, is still alive? She should be about 98-y-o by now.

She was alive at the Wedding in 2015 as her presence was mentioned in one of the articles about the Wedding.

The late Prince was related to the Dutch royal House. His family inherited the bulk of the fabulous jewels of Queen Anna Pavlovna of the Netherlands.

Oh gosh, the German houses do seem to be having bad luck lately. Such a tragic death, RIP Prince Georg-Constantin. My condolences to the family but especially to Olivia Paige considering that they were reportedly due to have their religious wedding soon.

Unfortunately this means that the extinction of yet another branch of the House of Wettin is written on the wall. Although there are unequal agnatic line members of a few branches in not to many years there's only going to be the Coburgs left.

That seems a sensible choice. I suspect more and more houses will revert to such a solution.

I thin k it should depend on who is the last male. If Prince Michael dies before his cousin Wilhelm-Ernst he should become the Head of the House. And usually it would be then his daughter who btw is married to Count Florian of Hoenbroech and the mother of 5 sons would succeed. Leonie is still unmarried and has no children.

Why so late after the death? Funerals usally take place in course of one-two weeks since.

:previous: Perhaps the family wanted more time to mourn privately given the tragic circumstances of Georg-Constantin's death, though I agree it does seem somewhat late in comparison to most funeral dates.
