Fashion Caftan 2005 blossoms tonight
Fashion lovers will have their evening today in Marrakech as the final show of Caftan 2005 is about to unfold…
Tonight is the final show of Caftan du Maroc. The only clues fashion victims have for the moment are the names of the eight stylists participating in it: Najia Abbadi, Nabil Dahani, Samira Haddouchi, Mohamed Lakhdar, Zineb Souissi, Achraf Makoudui, Fadwa Al Hamed, and one word: flowers.
However, the pre-selection of this year's new talents has already proved difficult for the organisers, which is quite promising for us (see photos): “We had an incredible number of applications,” said Aïcha Skhri, one of the organisers, “we received more than 60 application files, and we selected only eleven.” Out of these eleven, only five have been selected for tonight's fashion show.
Launched in 2002 by the Moroccan monthly “Femmes du Maroc” (Nissaa al Maghrib) Caftan 2005 was originally aimed at encouraging young haute-couture talents but, only three years after its start, the event has already become an international fashion show as tonight's defile is to be aired by both the TVM and the Arabic language channel “Art.”
This year's session has also been marked by the launch of a ready to wear fashion week, organized under the theme “Moroccan Touch.” This demonstration is more than welcome now, especially as Morocco's textile industry must evolve to keep competing with giants such as China…
