Princess Lilian was born on August 30, 1915 in Swansea, Wales, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Davies.

For a couple of years Lilian Davies was married to the actor Ivan Craig.

During World War II Mrs. Craig worked at a radio factory making radio sets for the British merchant fleet. She also served at a hospital for wounded soldiers.

In 1943 Mrs. Craig met Prince Bertil of Sweden in London for the first time. They married on December 7, 1976 in the Drottningholm Palace Chapel, when Lilian Craig became Princess of Sweden and Duchess of Halland.

On January 5, 1997, Prince Bertil died in their home at Villa Solbacken, Djurgården, Stockholm.

Princess Lilian is the patron of several associations and organisations. The Princess especially takes a great interest in the work of SOS Barnbyar Sverige (Children's Villages Sweden), of which she is the patron.

The Princess is also an honorary member of several clubs and associations, and she often takes part in prize and medal ceremonies, associated with Prince Bertil's sphere of interest.

Can you imagine how it must have been for this sweet couple!?Not being able to get married for all these years until Carl Gustaf married himself and secured the succession to the throne.
And fascinating if you compare with todays paparazzis that during all these years the swedish press, who knew all about the romance, didn´t write about it because Prince Bertil had asked them not to do!
A real fairy tale come true after about 40 years.

Sara Boyce

Lilian married prince Bertil in december 1976. The king married in June 1976 and that made it ok for his uncle prince Bertil to marry the woman he´d loved for many years, Lilian Craig.
Prince Bertil died in January 1997

I noticed the pics of Queen Ingrid and Princess Lilian. Does anyone know why they didn't get along at first, but later became friendly?

I'd like to know too. Did it have something to do with someone perceived as a 'gold-digger' and then it took time for the love shine through?

I think this is a traditional family matter esp. for royalty.

Princess Lilian was a divorced woman and a commoner, back in those days, people must have thought that, a divorced woman like Princess Lilian just wanted money and status. Also, she had been together with her prince (can't remember his name) for years and years, so this gave people a negative impression of she been too determined with the royal title.

Queen Ingrid, just like any ordinary daughter, though living in Denmark most of the time, had always concerned for her family in Sweden, probably thought just like that for sometime. Since, Lilian wasn't an easily tired person, she liked to be active, this might also have annoyed Queen Ingrid.

But as time went by, people get used to eachother and got to know eachother better and the two cooled down.

Howcome Princess Lilian doesn't wear any of those larger size tiaras that Queen Silvia often wears? Are they only for the Queen? The king's sisters all wear their own small tiaras and didn't seem to have worn any of the large ones. I thought the female members share tiaras.

It looks like Princess Lilian has aged a lot the past years. She needed a lot of help to get down the stairs on Nobel. I really hope she's not sick :(
