Summary of article in Billed Bladet #32, 2016.
Written by our man in Rio, the Ulrik Ulriksen.
As you know the DRF went to Rio, partly to support the Danish athletes, but also to help promote Danish trade and businesses.
The clothes the DRF wore while at the Olympics are from Bestseller.
However, the culmination of the business-part of the DRF presence was a dinner aboard the full-rigged school ship Danmark.
(Danmark was in exile in 1940 and when USA got involved the war in 1941, Danmark went into service as a school-ship for the US Coast Guard. And based on the experiences the Coast Guard purchased their own tall-ship as a school ship after the war).
Here Mary a silk-skirt from Etro a cardigan from Ann Taylor and jewels from Dulong Fine Jewellery, Orit Elhanati and Cartier.
Mary in particular, probably because she's patron for the Danish Swimming Association, paid special attention on the Danish swimmers, something that was very much appreciated. Frederik also joined her at some point and here the met Henri of Luxembourg.
M&F also visited the Olympic Village and the Danish athletes there and spend three with them, before going to visit the Australian athletes. And it was here Mary was presented with a big kangaroo.
The first Danish medal was in silver and went to the cyclist, Jacob Fuglsang. When Frederik heard about it he announced it to everyone within earshot and made a few dance-steps before calling the PR-man for the Danish team to congratulate Fuglsang.
But J&M and their children also showed up to personally congratulate Fuglsang and Athena and bette Henrik were allowed to touch the medal.
Fuglsang said: This silver-medal is the greatest I have accomplished. It's super-cool. I'm honored that that the royals follow (the events). And the Crown Prince called via our press-man to me and congratulated and he was over the moon. It's really, really cool that the royals pay so much attention to this".
(In the scans below you can see Frederik do his little dance).
But swimming and cycling wasn't the only thing the DRF followed. Also the handball match between DK and Argentina was followed. Both by Frederik who sat among the VIP's and by J&M and children who sat among the spectators. Here an extremely enthusiastic Athena cheered the Danish team. And as you can tell from one of the photos in the scans mademoiselle Athena knows exactly where she has her dad - at her feet...
Nikolai and Felix were interviewed by our reporter.
Q: How has the trip to Brazil been?
Nikolai: "It's been a fantastic experience. It's always exciting to go to new places and meet new people and cultures. And then it's exciting to experience the Olympics".

N: "I think it's been cozy to be with the whole family".
F: "Yes, it's really like in the day to day life. Then we also look after them once in a while".
Q: You have here in Rio experienced the Olympics and seen quite a bit of sport - have you yourselves been doing some sport on the trip?
N: "Yes, we have. We've stayed fit on this trip. We have played a lot of ball on the beach. Especially volleyball and then we have been running a bit".
Q: What sport do you (informal you) like the best, Felix?
F: "I've been boxing for five years now and then I also like to run and cycle. Cycling, that I do a lot".
Q: What does such a trip with your father, Princess Marie and your two little siblings mean to you?
N: "Such a family-trip is always exciting and it's nice to experience something new together. That's something we together in doing and which we look very much forward to".
Q: Now the holiday is over and you are going back to school. How are you about returning home to the start of the school-year?
F: "I'm actually pretty fine about going home and start in school again. I've missed the friends a bit, so I really don't mind it".
N: "It's just like any other start of the school-year. It's nice to return home to Denmark again. It's be good to start in school".
J&M also talked to our reporter.
Joachim: "We've been busy. We've had official events, big or small, every day and sometimes several times a day.
Our children have come with us to get a unique experience and to experience a bit of the Olympics. That has been the purpose of bringing them along on the journey, since it on top of everything is taking place during the holiday. Now we are all going back home and we have to get back to work".
Marie: "The children have coped with the trip so well. It's been a pleasure. I'll say it's rare we bring them along, but it wasn't a challenge. I was a bit worried to begin with, but it went so well.
They are ready to start a new year. Henrik is to start a new school-year on 16th August, so he didn't miss days at school because of this trip.
It has basically been a good experience for the children, I believe. The little ones have been very interested in all the new. They have been curious just like Felix and Nikolai. We have some easy and curious children.
They are children who love to experience new things. They are very happy".
