Thank you for the updates in regards to the royal wedding.

“These are the people I grew up with and they are very special to me. I want all of them to be at my wedding to share in my happiness,” Tunku Aminah said in a statement issued by the Royal Press Office today.

“The drivers and bodyguards who ferried me around would remind me that I was the only princess, and advised me to be good. Every afternoon after school, I would be with my brothers and we would play with the stable boys. We would eat together at a stall in the stable.

“In addition to the stable boys, I am also inviting all the other staff who looked after us. They were all part of my childhood and they taught me the values of dedicated service, loyalty and kindness,” noted Tunku Aminah.

As a commemorative wedding gift, each of the long-serving staff will receive a special souvenir personally designed by the princess.

The staff, while overjoyed, were pleasantly surprised when the invitations arrived, saying they never expected to be remembered by the princess.

“I had goosebumps …it felt like a dream. I still can’t believe Tunku Aminah actually gave me an invitation to her wedding,” said Adnan Othman, 45, a horse trainer and a Royal Johor Polo Club player.

He said he had known the princess since she was 5-years old, adding that she started taking up horse riding seriously when she turned 11.

Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah of Kedah passed away

The Sultan of Kedah Al-Mu'tasimu Billahi Muhibbudin Tuanku Al-Haj Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah passed away at the age of 89 at 2.30pm Malaysian time today September 11, 2017. He completed his term as the King of Malaysia last December 2016. The name of the new Sultan of Kedah will be announced at 1.30pm tomorrow following a special meeting. The current Raja Muda of Kedah is Tunku Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah. That's quite a development. Looks like he was effectively fired by the council... Going on sick leave to get married to a 25-year old Russian model doesn't seem the right thing to do.

Wouldn't an abdication require a separate topic (if only to attract attention to this important development)?!

Assuming that the current deputy king will be the new king, it will be interesting to see whom they pick as the next deputy: will it be either the sultan of Pahang (who already was the 7th king in the early eighties, so is 88, and would be 93 if he would live long enough to ascend the throne a second time - with the risk that it wouldn't be him but his son who would in that case just became sultan) or Johor (interestingly enough the current sultan of Johor is the brother-in-law of the future sultan of Pahang) or will they completely skip these sultantes in favor of a sultanate that already had 2 sultans serve as king.

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad also wrote in a blog posting titled “Rule of Law” last Wednesday that all Malaysians, including the royalty, were bound by the laws of the land.

“There is no provision which exempts anyone from the rule of law. For the rulers, there is a special court, but the laws are the same as the laws applicable to ordinary citizens.

The rulers too must respect the laws,” he wrote. “It is disturbing to see blatant breaches of the law being perpetrated in the mistaken belief that immunity has somehow been accorded.”

However, his posting did not make specific reference to any offence. While there is nothing that bars a monarch from marrying a foreigner, ST has learnt that other rulers were uneasy with the arrangement and the possible coronation of Ms Voevodina as Queen.
