On February 9th, a male Imperial Guard escort officer (45) from Division 1 was arrested for theft. He admitted to stealing 3 items, including down jackets, totaling 72,000 Yen from 2 pachinko parlors on January 1 and sold them to a thrift shop for 13,000 Yen. He was identified from security videos.
The guard took a break from work in December and left his family's home, living in capsule hotels in Tokyo. From the Metropolitan Police Department's investigation, he appears to be in debt due to horse racing and the theft paid for living expenses.
The Imperial Guard Headquarters said "We regret [our] staff was arrested. We will take strict measures in line with the facts revealed by the investigation."
