Next summer it is 50 years since King Carl XVI Gustaf paid a State Visit to the United Kingdom (hosted in Edinburgh)… He was then unmarried and was accompanied to the State Banquets by his sister and brother in law Princess Margaretha and John Ambler who already lived in UK…

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip made their return state visit to Sweden in 1983, arriving with Britannia and had a similar welcoming ceremony to the one we saw yesterday for the danish King and Queen.

What i would love to see King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia make a State Visit to UK soon…. To be entirely protocollary correct maybe it is King Charles who should visit Sweden first as King Carl Gustaf is now the longest serving monarch in Europe, but as it is Sweden’s turn to visit UK i think the next visit whenever it happens will be in that direction

It would be great to see a Sweden - UK state visit, in either direction, but I don't see it as a pressing need for the UK government in the near term.

The only reason i could think about for inviting Sweden (and Finland) for a State Visit anytime soon would be Nato and the Defense and Foreign politics Cooperation…

However Sweden is not one of UK’s biggest trading partners so i don’t expect it to happen soon though….. But surprises are always fun ;)

Fair point.

I know the Japanese state visit to the UK was postponed; has it been rescheduled?

First it should be King Charles III who pays a state visit to Sweden.

I think that Charles and Camilla should make a tour for the Commonwealth states, there are rumours of a Official Visit to Australia this summer.

Not this summer but this autumn in connection with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa… However all that is depending on the king’s health so we won’t know anything until it gets closer

First it should be King Charles III who pays a state visit to Sweden.
With the same logic King Charles should pay a state visit to Japan as well - but it has already been confirmed that a japanese state visit to the United Kingdom is scheduled in June.
