Nicholas de Roumanie Medforth-Mills and Alina Maria Binder - September 30th, 2018

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Wow; I'm amazed at how big the crowds are - I don't think any other non-reigning royals would've gotten such a treatment from the public, it's almost as if they're a reigning family again (though the wedding being the first since the 1930s in Romania might be a factor for the large turn-out from members of the public). Roughly what are the statistics for the royal family's popularity/restoration of the monarchy in Romania?
On a more wedding related note, Alina's dress is beautiful and she looked lovely. She and Nicholas both looked very happy. It's a shame that his mother and aunt were absent (I presume due to family rifts), though if Nicholas is not on speaking terms with them I imagine he was probably happier with them not being there.
The flowers in Alina's bouquet also sound beautiful. I've always thought hydrangea would be lovely in a wedding bouquet.

Have you seen the crowds for Lady Melissa Percy and Thomas van Straubenzee? In your very own country. It is just the occasion which attracts onlookers, not necessarily with special feelings towards the aristocracy or a royal family. Not present like his aunt and her husband.

He has not one aunt you single out, but a mother, four aunts, two uncles, and three cousins from his maternal family. None of them did attend.

Many congratulations to the couple, they look lovely and very happy; and thank you fellow RF posters for providing all the videos and photos and evrything here (especially LadyFinn who, i think, posted the majority of it)

The sentimentalist in me would have liked the groom's family to be present and enjoy the day with their son/nephew/cousin, but if they can't bring themselves to that, it's probably better that they stayed away; at least his sister Karina was there.

Great to see so many romanians gathered to cheer the couple!

Archbishop Calinic: The King was unhappy with having only daughters, God gave him a grandson [....]

We can not control this. We can not ask the late King if he was unhappy indeed with "only daughters". These are the words of the Archbishop. If true: well, how nice for the ladies amongst us...

What we can control is: "God gave him a grandson". Factually wrong. God gave the King two grandsons.

I'd guess its overwhelmingly likely that King Michael, whose throne (to the best of my understanding) could not be inherited by a daughter, very much would have liked to have a son. Add in the fact that he was of a generation who believed that men should be at the head of the family, I'm going to suggest that the Archbishop was correct in what he said.

I'm also going to guess that the King's daughters understand all this, although your outrage on behalf of women is truly touching.

HOW cross must be those in the Romanian Royal family [who have worked so tirelessly undermine this creditable young man] to see so many turn out and celebrate his Wedding.
SO much good publicity for him, and NONE for them, appearing as they do to 'bad fairy godmothers' cursing the feast...
I wish the Prince and his new Princess EVERY happiness in their life together.

Given the crowds who turned out to see Nicholas and Alina the non attendance by members Romanian RF comes across as so petty and might give them much to ponder about.

I actually don’t think most Romanians will need to ponder too much. This is royal stuff without the custodian. The man has done the correct thing in his wedding plans that is befitting a potential heir to the the throne.

Are there not usuall held crown over the heads of the bridal Couple? At last this was done at the greek royal Weddings.
Orthodox Russians hold the crowns in question over heads. Georgians tend to put them on.

It is wonderful that his sister Karina could be there as well.

All of the press reports make a large deal of the fact that none of the Royal family was there, and that is fair and technically correct, but they ignore the fact that Karina is third-in-line, even though she does not bear a royal title.

One imagines the powers that be at Elisabeta Palace were not amused to discover she would be going.

I really wish them the most wonderful happiness ! Very likeable couple !

Arch-Bishop Calinic has an interesting background in terms of connections with the RF.
This article tells of when, in the 90's, the Romanian Government suspected that he was organising the crowning of King Mihai with artifacts taken from Romanian museums(crown and throne). King Mihai was reportedly travelling to reach Curtea des Arges when he suddenly turned back to his home in exile.

Hear! Hear!

I totally agree, they're a lovely couple!

Brilliantly said and I hope for bigger things and much love and joy for this wonderful young couple. They have no need for bitter, unhappy members of the royal family who have showed their true colors.

"When you think about the most important things in life, you think, among other things, freedom. Freedom to choose, the freedom to be yourself, the freedom to do what you think is right. We had the freedom to choose to be in Sinaia today. We chose and we were chosen to see a wedding ... I'll start a list of banal and often used words, but each of these words today is at its peak.
... A wedding story. An elegant wedding. A normal wedding, but different from any other, at the same time. A lot of emotions. And beautiful people. Rules and creativity put together.
Two people, distinguished, special, beautiful, royal. A large team of friends behind. I worked nicely with my colleagues at Transylvania Pictures. I was impressed again, how Maison Dadoo can do it. We were a team.
Today we chose to believe in stories of princes and princesses. I have said before, still say: Romania still has to tell!"

"Prince Nicolae, and his chosen Alina Binder, have left the church in a beautiful carriage that immediately attracted the attention of those attending the event princely. According to its owner, Cristian Iancu, the carriage has been made in Italy, solid wood, and is still unique in Romania. It was pulled by two horses accompanied Frisian and accompanied by 53 members of Junii Braşov. All the way to the Sinaia Casino, Prince Nicolae and Alina Binder were applauded by people, many of them cheering and throwing flowers. Also, those on the way to the casino have wished: "A lot of love to you!" And "Long live the bride!"

Fortunately restoration is gaining steam, especially following the funeral of King Michael. I have hope, just as I hope for restoration elsewhere in Europe. Particularly in Germany, where I've lived for over 10 years...would be lovely to see the beautiful Princess Sophie become my Queen :)

Calinic: "wedding without mother's blessing is not good"

Father Calinic, Bishop Argeșului and muscelului, a close to prince Nicholas, sent a message to the royal family. It claims that the wedding without the blessing of parents is not good.

" Nicolae cried honestly and well at his grandfather's funeral, as a true Romanian. The others wept, the girls cried more discreetly. It's not normal a wedding without the blessing of parents. Nicholas has to reconcile with his mother,", said bishop argeșului and muscelului.

I thought it was clear that it is his mother who doesn't want him !

Liviu Popescu, the godfather who escorted Alina-Maria to the church (and is the ceo of Fratelli Group, which took care about the menu and catering at the wedding), has given an interview, where he says among other things:
How did you and your wife take the proposal to become godparents former Prince Nicolae?
With excitement and enthusiasm. We are honored that we have been chosen to be godparents, spiritual parents, they have become part of our family and we will be there, for better or for worse.
What was the atmosphere at the former Prince Nicolae's wedding, how did you have fun?
The atmosphere was very distinguished by the presence of leading guests from 30 countries, including Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Germany. There were noble families from all over the world who, through elegance and refinement, created a wonderful atmosphere. The guests also showed that they know how to have fun, so they danced until the morning. The atmosphere was maintained by Romanian music and coverings performed by Aurelian Temișan and the Cardinal Show Orchestra, led by George Natsis. The Fratelli DJ also made a sensation.
Still in Sinaia? Is it a fairytale wedding, 3 days and 3 nights?
We're still here, yes, at the brunch after the wedding. In fact, there were two brunches: one after twelve, a buffet with potato soup and Romanian goodies, dried crumbs, cheeses, homemade bread. And now at the hotel, it's the brunch on the second day, where the guests meet before they go to their homes all over the world. It's a special wedding that lasted not three days, like fairy tales, but 4. And that's because we had a party Friday night at Biutiful, with 100 guests, Saturday night we spent with 150 guests at a cocktail party, Sunday was the wedding, and today we reunited at the brunch.
Being a godfather is almost a job. How demanding was this role for you?
He asked a lot. It was a six-month training for the event. Nicolae al Romaniei has some protocols inherited from his family that can not be ignored, so we had to respect all the rules, to the smallest detail. There was a 10-person committee, chefs and managers from Fratelli, because Fratelli Group was responsible for food and services, Fratelli DJ, Dadoo Events team, light designer, technics. The only aspect where we had freedom was the choice of the menu, otherwise everything was strict. On the wedding day, 115 people worked for the 250 guests.

At the official program of the religious wedding it was told that today they would pay tribute to the fallen heroes at the Heroes Monument in Sinaia.

A video
The impressive gesture made by former Prince Nicolae and his wife right after the wedding
After the wedding ceremony that took place on Sunday in Sinaia, grandson of King Mihai, Nicolae and his chosen Alina-Maria laid flowers to the Heroes Monument in Sinaia, like have done other ancestors of the royal family on their wedding day. Sunday's wedding was like a fairy tale. A lot of people congratulated enthusiastically two in the evening, which the newlyweds with guests - over two hundred - spent the Sinaia Casino.
On Monday morning, the couple Nicolae and Alina-Maria went to the cemetery of the heroes in Sinaia. Here, the two couple laid flowers in the memory of the heroes of the First World War.
"Emotion, nobility, elegance and good soul. That's what I felt at the wedding and today at the laying of the flower wreaths. A title, if you’re born with it, there it is, no one can take it, and nobility stands in what is inside", a local said.
On Tuesday, the couple will go to Curtea de Arges Monastery to reminisce at the grave of Nicolae's grandparents, King Mihai and Queen Ana.

I'm happy for Nicholas sake that his sister Elisabeth was at his wedding. I also noticed the quite clever way to get around his mother's absence. Instead of being seated with their parents the bridal couple had their respective brother and sister to the table.

Is Alina now Alina-Maria de Roumanie Medforth-Mills or has she another surname?

According to the website Smart Everything Everywhere, where Alina-Maria works as project coordinator, she uses the name Alina-Maria de Roumanie. That name she uses also at her Facebook. What is her official name, has not been told. Even Marilena Rotaru was wandering it once at her Facebook.
About _ Smart Everything Everywhere

Archbishop Calinic, Archbishop of Arges and Muscel, celebrated the wedding ceremony of Prince Nicholas with Alina-Maria Binder at the Church of St. Elias in Sinaia - an occasion with which the father made a both funny and candid speech through the frankness and courage with which he referred directly to the occasions that have divided the royal family of Romania.

The Archbishop spoke about Queen Anne's courage to marry King Michael when he was left without a throne: "Queen Anne, what character and sentiment!" His speech was unexpectedly bold - wishing to be a kind of recognition from the church towards Nicholas as the successor of King Michael, and at the same time, to be a heavy blow to Princess Margareta - who did not attend the wedding.

"[King Michael was] a true Romanian king. He was an historic king (...) A model of a family head. He was troubled that he had only five daughters and that he did not have a son, but God gave him a grandson, Nicholas, whom he intended to bring up with love and with great attention."

In addition, ÎPS Calinic also spoke as the former Bishop of King Michael, who told had told the archbishop that Prince Nicholas should unite the Romanians. Calinic referred directly to Princess Margareta and suggested that King Michael's wishes are not, in fact, being respected. "If they [the royal household] have witnesses to this, they should provide the witnesses," the archbishop pointed out, contesting the official announcement of the Royal House, according to which King Michael himself excluded Prince Nicholas from the succession line and withdrew his monarchical title granted in 2010 (Nicholas was third in order of succession, after Michael I and Princess Margareta and Princess Helen).

The Archbishop also made an appeal to the Prince's mother shortly before the wedding, saying, "At the funeral of Queen Anne and that of King Michael, Prince Nicholas was crying, not hiding. He also laughs with all his heart when he has reasons. He's very honest. And he has a chosen vocation. But there are problems with him in the family, the world knows this. But the most important thing for him is to be reconciled with his mother. A wedding can not really take place in joy if the bride and groom do not have the blessing of their parents. His mother was intransigent, maybe she had her reasons, I do not know, but I saw Nicholas in a terrible state."

However, neither Princess Helen, Nicholas' mother, or Princess Margareta, whom the groom had wished to act as his godmother at the ceremony, did not attend the wedding in Sinaia - she chose instead to go to France.

Wow, quite a speech! If his position reflects that of the head of the Romanian orthodox church, this is quite a piece of news
