And probably only, giving that at the time of next Summer Olympic Games she will be already 35; it's a rather advanced age for a sportswoman.

I disagree. Zara is only getting better as days pass. Mary King who rides for GB is older than Zara yet she is one of the best and she doesn't look like she is stopping anytime soon.

Not in equestrian sports. They remain competitive into their 50s and 60s.

Not really. Mary King who competed alongside Zara is 51, this was her sixth Olympics. Zara can ride for as long as she wants.

Congrats to ZARA and Team GB :fireworks: Wonderful news :) and how lovely and nice that Princess Anne give the medals :flowers:

Hardly. Zara is in fact the youngest member of her team. By the time of the next Olympics, she'll be 35 - and still younger than any of her team-mates now. Assuming Zara continues to deliver on the same level and has no issues with her horses, she will have 2-3 Olympics to compete in. If she emuliates Mary King, then there are at least 5 Olympics ahead of her.
- Zara is 31
- Nicola Wilson is 35
- Kristina Cook is 41
- William Fox-Pitt is 43
- Mary King is 51.

Germany's team is quite similar age-wise:
- Sandra Auffarth is the youngest at 25 (she won individual bronze too).
- Michael Jung turned 30 today (he won individual gold too).
- Ingrid Klimke is 44.
- Dirk Schrade is 34.
- Peter Thomsen is the same age as Mary King - 51.

Anyway, congratulations to Zara and Team GB! Fantastic achievement.

Wasn't one of the riders who crashed out of the Cross Country making his Olympic debut in his 50s?

Zara could easily make the next 4 - 5 Olympics if she has good enough horses and keeps up her own personal desire - her father for instance first competed in 1972 and again in 1988 a span of 5 Olympics - although he didn't make the team in between - he was reserve in 1976 (in those days the teams consisted of four riders only not five as now).

The Aussies have often had an eventer in their 50s - Andrew Hoy for instance is 53 this year and rode very well and is considering continuing to Rio - meaning competing at 57.

Congratulations to the German, British and New Zealand teams. The German team were never going to drop from the gold medal position, they were just too powerful.

Zara did very well to finish 8th in the individual competition ahead of some excellent riders (Mark Todd e.g.) and only a couple of places behind the two other British riders. High Kingdom is improving all the time and the result bodes well for her future.

You are right. For instance, Mr. Hoketsu, who is 71, qualified to be in the Japanese Olympic team and competes in the individual dressage in London.

Is Zara competing in any of the other equestrian events coming up within the next week? How do these work? These are individual events... same participants? is the slate wiped clean or do they inherit their scores from this round of events? any information is appreciated

MichelleQ2, You've got Eventing, Jumping and Dressage. All three of them have individual teams and participants.
Dressage starts Thursday!

Correct. Zara's Olympics are over, she can relax and enjoy herself now.

I've been watching Equestrian events since I was a kid...there are still riders competing in top shows (jumpers/dressage/cross country) now across the US that I started watching around the age of 12 or so...I'm almost 46 so that gives a idea of how long competitive riders can go.

Absolutely, equestrian riders go on a long time if the good horses keep coming. The Whitaker family is a good example of young and old competing.

Did Zara stay in the olympic village with other competitors?

Yes apparently som the media also made a point of saying she would do so without any extra security apart from that provided to all athletes.

After Munich, the security was extremely increased for the athletes. Then after Atlanta, it increased across the board.

Princess Nathalie will be competing tomorrow in dressage.
She is due to ride at 12:33GMT, she is the 10th rider tomorrow.

Has Pss Nathalie been on the course today?

According to Dazzling just above she's due to ride at 12:33pm which is in 21 minutes :)

Princess Nathalie just completed her round, she rode really well.
Score 74.954
Rank 8

After Princess Nathalie's ride, the team rank's 1st place, there is one more rider to go. Hopefully they manage to stay in the top spot.

She looked like she was crying, both on the way in and on the way out :( :( :(
