The Crown Princess Couple's Foundation organized a meeting for non-profit organisations working in Gothenburg. The purpose of the meeting was to establish a network and discuss the challenges in the Gothenburg region.
Each organization presented their activities for children and young people in Gothenburg. This was followed by small group discussions about the problems that the organizations identified in the region. One problem identified in several groups was segregation and the consequences thereof. The network will continue to meet to contribute to finding a solution to the problems identified in the region.

When Victoria and Daniel don't attend at these meetings, managing director Elin Annwall is the leader of the meetings.
Elin Annwall also attends at conferences and summits in Sweden and tells about the Foundation's work.

Svenska med baby conducts open parent groups, in collaboration with local stakeholders such as libraries and open kindergartens, organized in more segregated areas. The meetings are built around different themes, where conversation and activities adapted to the size of the group, language level and interests. It's always free to attend and no registration is required. In addition to the ongoing meetings activities such as excursions and visits are organized.

The Crown Princess Couple's Foundation tells at it's website that parents who participate in Svenska med baby got with their children a guided tour of the reception rooms of the Royal Palace. They met prince Daniel at Karl XI's gallery and the visit ended with a lunch at the Palace cafe.

One of the projects the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation supports is Goodsport Foundation. Goodsport has as its main focus is to work with the integration of Sweden's most vulnerable areas and make a difference, including sport as an instrument.
Night Football, Soccer for girls, job opportunities and school reunions are some of the activities Goodsport implements with various cooperation organizations. and municipalities. In 2016, over 500 spontaneous sports activities in 8-10 cities with over 25,000 organized events are planned. Over 1600 young people participate in Night Football.

There has been many articles at the media about Goodsport and Night Football. The Crown Princess Couple's Foundation has been mentioned at some of the articles.

From SVT in March
A concept called Night Football is spreading around the country for young people in deprived areas to have something to do on weekend evenings until midnight. Skäggetorp in Linköping is according to the police one of Sweden's 15 most vulnerable areas. But there are forces that want to change the situation.
- I grew up in the area. I know how important it is to give young people something sensible to do during weekend evenings, says initiator, Hamma Mohammedian.
The police has kept statistics on how crimes have decreased in Skäggetorp after late night football started. The total number of crimes reported during Saturday nights decreased by 49 %. The police believes that the project has a strong contributing factor that the region has become calmer.
- Not many people plan to go out and smash a bus shelter. It occurs when the restless youth pulls around and are bored. Here we give them instead a fun option, and then we also see results, says initiator Anton Juholt.
The former professional and national team player Alexander Östlund is project manager for the non-profit Foundation Goodsport that helps to spread and support Night Football around the country.
- Just that we have locally based leaders who welcome you and with whom young people can talk about everything. Just the feeling of being part of a team, getting a high-five and speaking Swedish with other young people. It is invaluable for everyone, especially for those who come unaccompanied.

Former Djurgården profiles Patrik Asplund and Tommy Jacobsson and former football national team right back, Alexander Östlund, are now active in Goodsport Foundation, which aims to improve the integration of problem areas. Goodsport is unique in that they measure what they achieve for the public benefit in economic terms. A report shows that their project last year saved up over a hundred million to the community.
- We have a good knowledge on those involved in our activities through our surveys, where we find out their background, if they have work and things like that. Then we compare with crime and job statistics, says Patrik Asplund.
When the crimes have decreased, also a lot of money has been saved.
- We have calculated very low. We have taken into account the costs of trials, insurance costs and damage costs, says Asplund.
National Project Manager for Night Football, one of Goodsport's several activities, is Alexander Östlund.
- He means a lot to us. He is a contact with young people, then he is friends with Zlatan, which doesn't make it worse, says Asplund.
Östlund likes his new life after his active career, which ended in January 2010.
- We live in a very good country, but there are a lot of people who feel lonely without confidence and grow up in misery. I'm more than happy to help with the work trying to nurture them into society and have a future. I've always been passionate about young people and people who feel bad. I knew immediately that I had much to contribute and have many contacts around the suburbs.
Östlund's friendship with the Swedish national team captain has made that he too is involved on a small, small corner.
- Zlatan isn't involved in any way in Goodsport, but he gave me a signed ball and signed card to all areas we operate, directly targeted to the young people and leaders of the area. He is my closest friend and knows that I am doing good things for our youth, and he cares very much about them. The ball is an inauguration gift that symbolizes joy, friendship and respect, a sign that Zlatan sees them, hears them and thinks they are doing something really good, says Östlund.

The Crown Princess Couple launches today initiative GEN-PEP for Swedish children's health

Together with leading Swedish companies, foundations and non-profit organizations today will be launched GEN-PEP, a non-profit organization with the vision that all children and young people in Sweden should have the ability and desire to live an active and healthy life. GEN-PEP works to spread knowledge, inspiration and support to both children and young people, parents and other adults around children.
Sweden is one of Europe's most sedentary countries and the percentage of children who reach the recommended amount of physical activity one hour per day, is small. 75 percent of Swedish children eat too little green, fruit and berries. It may not sound so bad, but in fact this is now one of our biggest health hazards.
- The ambition with Generation PEP is to create engagement and change for children's health. It is a large and comprehensive challenge that no one can solve on its own. We are pleased from the start to have with us many strong partners, and our hope is to get more, said Prince Daniel who together with Crown Princess is the initiator of the GEN-PEP.
The aim is to involve the whole community together to help children and young people to live a healthy life.

Partners that will drive initiatives within the framework of the GEN-PEP: Alla på snö, En Frisk Generation, Friluftsfrämjandet, H&M, ICA, Idrottsgalan, IKEA, MTG Sverige, Skolklassikern, Telia, Trivselledare and TV4.
Founding partners: Carl Bennet AB, CS Stiftelse för Nästa Generation, Familjen Erling Perssons Stiftelse, ICA, IKEA, Kronprinsessparets Stiftelse (The Crown Princess Couple's Foundation), Stiftelsen Marcus och Amalia Wallenbergs Minnesfond and Telia.
Knowledge Partners: Folkhälsomyndigheten (Public Health Agency), Gymnastik- och Idrottshögskolan (The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences) and Karolinska Institutet.
Supporting partners: Forsman & Bodenfors, McKinsey & Company, Mannheimer Swartling, Alumni, Awapatent Foundation and Northern Lights.

The launch will take place in the gymnastic hall at S:t Hansskolan in Visby July 4 at. 12:30.

Daniel told at his opening speech that last week he and his family were at his parents' summer place in Acktjära. Daniel told that his father grew up there, and so did his grandfather Anders, born in 1900. Anders had eight siblings, the life wasn't easy at a poor family and often his grandfather hoped that he would have got more food to eat. When Anders was 12 years old, he had to leave his home to go to work at a farmer. It gave hard work from the morning until the evening but also more food to eat. Daniel said that his grandfather would have been disappointed if he would have seen how we live today, having health problems due to that we move too little, sit too much and eat everything else what out bodies really want.
Daniel spoke a lot about statistics and said that children should exercise and move at least one hour a day. He has a four year old child at home. The statistics tell that the four year old children in Sweden sit almost half of the time they are awake during a day. It seems totally strange to him.
Daniel launched the initiative and told that GEN-PEP, Generation PEP comes from "Pep-talk". He told about the initiative, what he and Victoria want to do with it and highlighted that they can't do it alone, not even with all their partners. Everyone is needed so that the future for the children is better.
Daniel was interviewed in the end of the seminar. Daniel said that they have done very much work with this initiative during the last year. They have read reports and met people and there has been many late nights with it. Daniel said also that this is a long term initiative and their involvement is long term, even 2030 seems to be very close (the moderator asked about Victoria as the advocate of UN Global Goals). "This is just the start", Daniel said. Moderator Dilsa Demirbag-Sten said that there has been an enormous interest to this event and this initiative, and Daniel said that he is very thankful for all the partners and people who have helped them. They hope to have more people and partners with them to GEN-PEP during the years to come. Daniel sees that he will grow old with GEN-PEP and that it will take a lot of his time during the years to come. Victoria is also very committed with this and they want to act as a unifying positive force in this work and get people together to do good things. Daniel said that what is great in their role is that they can work with a very long term commitment.
Daniel held a short speech in the end and said that he hopes that after 30-40 years he can look back to this day and think "we made it, we made it together, we made the impossible, we changed the public health with an unbelievably strong way".

Daniel gave an interview to Expressen
- GEN-PEP is a health initiative, Generation Pep, which is about that we will try to get people in Sweden to move more, sit less still, get a balance between sedentary and physical activity, Daniel said.
- It is incredibly shocking and worrying that we have become so physically inactive. We are one of the most sedentary people, it's incredibly frightening. I think there is a lot of stigma and many who feel pressure around that. It is important to add good habits and talk in a way so that one does not to feel bad and unsuccessful. Small, small steps. If you walk 20 minutes every day, it has extreme health effects. Just 15 minutes every other day, added, giving 45 hours of exercise per year. If you go from doing nothing to 45 hours of exercise per year, it is a health benefit. We're taking small steps to do something better.
How does the prince keep himself in shape?
- I have always been involved in sports and all that. I try to jog a little, go to the gym. I like to be out there.
Prince Daniel thinks that it is important that the children are moving.
- In preschool, they move almost the entire day. They are outdoors almost all the time. We like to be out in the woods, like making activities. A lot of sliding with sled in the winter. Estelle gets it in herself.

Daniel's interview to Aftonbladet
- Something that worries me a lot is that health is so unequal. Depending on what family you are born and where they live, the risk of getting diabetes is up to three times as high.
- I and the Crown Princess and our partners want to spread knowledge around health and physical activity for children and young people. We know that it is very important from an early age be introduced to physical activity. That one feels physically capable, it's something one takes with for life. It strengthens self-esteem.
Many children spend several hours a day sitting in front of the computer screen.
- Studies show that four year olds now spend almost half of their waking hours sedentary, says Prince Daniel.
It is a figure that touches him especially much, he has a four year old daughter at home. How would Prince Daniel be a role model for his children?
- I believe very much that children do we as parents do. I believe strongly on taking kids out and that they must be part of everything you do. Then the kids also move much. If I sit at the computer, there is a tendency that the children do it too.
What are Prince Daniel's own favorite activities with the children?
- There is a lot that I like to do with the kids. In winter it is wonderful to go out at the park and ride a little sled. And going to a playground I think is great fun. To see the energy and joy. The running in the child's legs has not disappeared, but we adults must give support. It must be worth something for the children to move.
What happens in Princess Estelle's development right now?
- A lot is happening. I don't really hang with it. It goes so fast, and it's great fun.
Daniel thinks all the training images in social media create great stress and pressure on many. And he points out that it is not easy for parents to have enough time for everything.
- I think it's incredibly important to have the approach of adding good habits, more than focusing on removing the bad.

The english text at the website of GEN-PEP
GEN-PEP is a non-profit organization that works to spread knowledge and get people involved in promoting the health of children and young people. The goal is to bring together companies, organizations and people in a joint effort to make it easier for children and young people to live a healthy life.
Why GEN-PEP?
We don’t get enough exercise and we don’t eat well enough. That might not sound too serious, but in fact this combination is one of our greatest health hazards, with consequences such as depression, diabetes type 2, sleep disorders, stroke, heart attack, dementia and osteoporosis. Our lifestyles are literally killing us and it is time to take this problem seriously.
Sweden is one of Europe’s most sedentary countries.
Sweden is one of the most sedentary countries in Europe and the percentage of children who achieve the recommended amount of physical activity – one hour a day – is small. Swedish four-year-olds sit still nearly half of their waking hours and only one out of eight thirteen-year-olds gets enough exercise every day.
Seventy-five percent of Swedish children eat less than the WHO-recommended intake of 400 grams of fruit and vegetables a day and twenty-two percent of the daily diet of Swedish children is made up of different types of sugar, more than twice as much as WHO’s recommended intake of ten percent.
Together we are GEN-PEP!
We are facing a huge and difficult challenge that we cannot solve on our own. It is going to require hard work from many people for a long time. We have received help from partners in this initial stage, but are always on the lookout for others who want to get involved in our children’s and young people’s health.

Daniel's interview done by Anders Pihlblad was shown at TV4 play at their News morning today.
Daniel said that he understands that it is tough for a single parent with three children to find time, there is cooking and helping with children's homework and other things and one should find time to support their children to physical activities. It's enough to go out and move, go to woods or park. Daniel said also that he sits too much still, but thanks to research reports and good advice he tries to stand up and move a little every hour.

The partners in GEN-PEP launch various initiatives, for instance ICA is going to launch three initiatives in the autumn, the GEN-PEP website tells.
One of them is the launch of "GEN-PEP fruit and vegetables"
The initiative aims to get children and young people eat fruit and vegetables at least five times each day. Around the school start and in the autumn, we are launching a series of fruit in smaller sizes, excellent for children and young people, with the GEN-PEP as sender, apples, pears, oranges and small citrus fruit. Through the initiative, we hope to inspire parents and children to eat more fruits and vegetables. Part of the prize for "PEP fruit" will also be used for activities done together with GEN-PEP.

- Prince Daniel has a strong commitment to public health and children's movement, issues that we work a lot with Haninge, not least through collaboration with En Frisk Generation in which Prince Daniel is involved, she says.
(Daniel is the founder and patron of En Frisk Generation Foundation (Healthy Generation), and the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation supports EFG with a grant).
The prince listened to Haninge's plans to get more people to cycle.
- I talked with Prince Daniel of how we in Haninge are working to get more people to cycle in everyday life, and handed Haninge's new mental cycle maps, Hjerling tells.
The maps will highlight the experience of Haninge cycle environments and bring in new perspectives of social development debate.

- I welcome that the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation takes this initiative because the physical and mental health of our young people are worse today than in the past. To focus on these issues is crucial for young people's future, says professor Carl Johan Sundberg at Karolinska Institutet.
- Sedentary has increased rapidly and threatens the health and well-being. I really welcome the mobilization that GEN-PEP represents and believe that the investment can mean a lot for Swedish Public Health, says professor Mai-Lis Hellenius.

Svensk Damtidning has at this week's issue Daniel's interview at the launch of GEN-PEP, here's parts of it. Daniel told that he has grown up with initiatives A Non Smoking Generation and Håll Sverige Rent, they had a big impact.
- And now I and my wife want to spread knowledge and create engagement around health and physical activity for the children and young people. We know that it is so important that you are moving already as a child.
How the idea of this was born?
- We heard some frightening research reports. I think we can play a role to bring people together so that we are taking steps in the right direction. We want to be involved and contribute. Someone might think "But aren't we incredibly brisk in Sweden?" We train, drink protein drinks and on Instagram we can clearly observe that the Swedes are quite satisfied with their physical status.
But the trend looks anything but good, he underlines.
- We are one of the countries in Europe that is mostly sedentary and we eat about 15 kg of sweets per year per person.
What kind of habits you have changed at home?
- This with sedentary has come clear for me, and for us. How dangerous it is. More and more research reports show how much we sit still and the negative impact it has for the body. You may think that if you practice a little, you can sit still like forever, and go to meeting after meeting. Now I try to get up in the middle of meetings and move my legs a little
What is Estelle's favourite sport?
- Estelle doesn't have a favorite sport yet. But she is very active physically and likes to dance and move.
Is it hard to keep Estelle away from her Ipad?
- No, I don't think so.

Carolina Klüft (Olympic gold medalist in heptathlon in 2004) from Viasat Sport interviewed Daniel about the Olympic Games, GEN-PEP and health. The interview was shown at Viasat's broadcast from the Olympic Games on Sunday evening. Unfortunately the video can be seen only in Sweden.

Sarah Sjöström (Victoria Scholarship winner 2015) swam home Sweden's first gold, and Emma Johansson brought silver in the road race. Many Swedes have high expectations for the championship in Brazil, Prince Daniel is no exception.
- I have incredibly high expectations. Not only that there will be good performances, but also that it should be a real festival. I think it will be a great atmosphere, says Prince Daniel.
Many Swedes sit at home and follow the Olympic Games with excitement, according to Prince Daniel Swedish success means much for Sweden as a country. The Prince thinks also role models are important.
- I think all events with which we can gather around mean a lot. Olympic Games are so amazingly large. The world's top athletes will compete for medals and we get to watch, it is amazing, but also to inspire the younger generation to get involved with sports.
Recently the Prince lauched with Crown Princess Victoria a concept that they have chosen to name to Generation PEP. An initiative to get young people in particular to move more, and the prince himself has a few tips on how to get started with daily exercise.
- It's about spreading knowledge and commitment to the children and young people's health. We see lot of worrying trends, we are moving less and less, sit more and more and eat more and more junk. We want to do something about it.
- When it comes to children, it's about getting them out for an hour and get some physical activity, it is incredibly valuable. Such things like only get up every half hour and move around a little bit, have incredible health benefits.

Great, GEN-PEP publishes Daniel's interview at Viasat Sport at their Facebook on a video. The interview was done in Solliden.

Daniel says at the video (in addition to the article), that the swedish people eat more sweets than any others in the whole world. He says that of course people can eat some ice cream and sweets when they are watching the Olympics but there should be a balance. That is why they (he and Victoria) are worried about the tendency and want to do something to it. Simple things like a walk or cycling or getting children outside, in the park and woods they are moving. Half an hour exercise a day for the adults and an hour for the children, some physical activity, is so valuable.
Klüft asks which are Daniel's best memories from the Olympic Games. Daniel says that there are many, one is the swedish gold in ice hockey in Lillehammer's Olympic Games, when goalie Salo made a save after Peter Forsberg had made a great goal from penalty shot and Maja Reichardt's gold at the London Paralympics in 2012. And Cathy Freeman in Sydney, she had such a pressure from the whole Australia at her home Olympics and she could manage with it, those are great performances. And then Daniel laughs and says that then moreover of course, I see that you stand there waiting (he refers to Klüft's olympic gold in 2004), absolutely!

Is he right?

Carolina Klüft to Expressen:
- It is a project under the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation and deals with children and young people's health. The aim is to get young people in motion and improve their eating habits. The Crown Princess couple is very keen that this project will be disseminated widely and I hope that too. This is absolutely not about elite sport, but about giving children the opportunity, and the like, to move more, says Carolina Klüft and reveals how she was recruited to the new task.
- It was Prince Daniel who called me and wanted to hire me to and I'm very happy that I got the question. Children and young people's health is an issue I am passionate about. I'm very happy for the job.
Can you say you have a royal job now?
- Haha no, but you may well call the project royal.
Klüft has been hosting Viasat's olympic broadcasts from Sochi and Rio. At least for a while there will be no more television assignments for Klüft.
- I don't close any doors for television, it's been great fun and instructive but right now I'm focusing on this project and my upcoming book release. Then I will continue with my lectures and little else, says Klüft.

TV4 is a partner of GEN-PEP. They started the collaboration because they want to contribute to sustainable development. For us it is about standing up for democracy and freedom against prejudice and discrimination, and to fight for a more child-friendly world. These values, we have conveyed our daily business for 25 years. We also manifested and power together with major fundraising galas and a variety of partnerships with various organizations working for children's rights and opportunities. Health and well-being is an important prerequisite for children and young people to take their rightful place in the world.

And here is the interview, video
Daniel tells that the whole family has been moving a lot during the summer. With a four year old you have to be out and make sure she gets rid of all the excess energy. They use Haga Park a lot, they go a lot of walks here and cycle with their little girl.
Daniel tells that Generation PEP is initiated by him and his wife and they have partners, both nonprofit organizations and companies, which are also worried about the tendency at the society about physical activity. What is most shocking and sad is that health is unequal. If you live in socio-economically deprived area, the risk of getting for example diabetes is three times higher than if you live in a more privileged area. There we feel we can make a difference. We want to do our share that it can be better. GEN-PEP is a nonprofit organization which wants to spread knowledge and inspire people so that they would move more. Daniel thinks that the problems could be solved, it depends on the knowledge. A SIFO research was done with 1000 people, they were asked how much the children should move in one day. Fourteen per cent knew the answer: one hour a day. Daniel hopes that by spreading knowledge like they are doing at the interview, would help. For instance a lot less people smoke today than some decades ago, with campaings of spreading knowledge things can be changed.
Daniel says to Börjesson: When you and I were young, the adventures were outdoors. To be called up in his room was a penalty. Today, we almost have to pull the children out from their rooms to play outdoors. The adventure is behind the screen. Indoors, still, sitting passively. So I think that we, as parents, we need to take our children and go out with them and play. Or just get them to go out.
Daniel says that there has been times when Estelle has been more interested and they have let her to watch more the screen and play more than they are letting now. But Daniel believes in having the right clear rules is what matters. He has noticed that it is possible, at least when they are so small. It's worse if you have kids maybe twelve years old. A four yeard old is easier to direct to other things. Daniel says that when he was a child, he played football, icehockey, basket, many things. There was less supply then. One can understand that a super cool game can well compete with exercising. Good sports leaders are needed who make the children welcome, there is a challenge. It is difficult to get a child to start with sport and many stop as very young. That a child can exercise and have fun is important, not all are ready to serious sports, matches and competing. Daniel reminds that a single parent who works all day at perhaps very hard work, doesn't perhaps have the time and energy to take his/her children to sports and exercising and be that good role model needed. The society must come to help. Everyone must have the same conditions to exercising and sport. When you go to school, you must have the possibility to move and exercise, like we think that children must have the same conditions to learn and have good teaching in mathematics. There is a lot to do, and that is a question to the politicians.
When they are walking, Daniel tells about the Sports Day and Prince Daniel's Race, that there are so many sports one can try. The weather should be fine, he is waiting very much for tomorrow and will try various sports.
Jesper Börjesson says that Daniel will be very tired on Sunday evening...

It is indeed often a social class issue. The childrens of the "haves" often are in better condition, on the right weight, enjoy challenges in sports and receive encouragements for studies, to achieve something, than children of the 'have-nots". When daddy and mummy are watching telly all time long, have no interests in exercise or culture, then their children will grow in that same framework.

On itself it is a bit a tricky comment coming from one of the most privileged gentlemen in Sweden. After all Daniel's children will never need to worry about healthy food, the best care, challenges in development and a fabulous youth...
